۲۷سربازانِ پیلاتُس، عیسی را به صحن کاخِ والی بردند و همۀ گروه سربازان گرد او جمع شدند. ۲۸آنان عیسی را عریان کرده، خرقه‌ای ارغوانی بر او پوشاندند ۲۹و تاجی از خار بافتند و بر سرش نهادند و چوبی به‌دست راست او دادند. آنگاه در برابرش زانو زده، استهزاکنان می‌گفتند: درود بر پادشاه یهود! ۳۰و بر او آبِدهان انداخته، چوب را از دستش می‌گرفتند و بر سرش می‌زدند. ۳۱پس از آنکه او را استهزا کردند، خرقه از تنش به‌در آورده، جامۀ خودش را بر او پوشاندند. سپس وی را بیرون بردند تا بر صلیبش کِشند.
