۵۷هنگام غروب، مردی ثروتمند از اهالی رامه، یوسف نام، که خودْ شاگرد عیسی شده بود، ۵۸نزد پیلاتُس رفت و پیکر عیسی را طلب کرد. پیلاتُس دستور داد به وی بدهند. ۵۹یوسف جسد را برداشته، در کتانی پاک پیچید ۶۰و در مقبره‌ای تازه که برای خود در صخره تراشیده بود، نهاد و سنگی بزرگ جلو دهانۀ مقبره غلتانید و رفت. ۶۱مریمِ مَجْدَلیّه و آن مریم دیگر در آنجا مقابل مقبره نشسته بودند.
