چون به‌سلامت به ساحل رسیدیم، دریافتیم آن جزیره مالت نام دارد. ۲ساکنان جزیره لطف بسیار به ما نشان دادند. آنان برای ما آتش افروختند، زیرا باران می‌بارید و هوا سرد بود، و ما را به‌گرمی پذیرا شدند. ۳پولُس مقداری هیزم گرد آورد و وقتی آن را روی آتش می‌گذاشت، به‌علت حرارتِ آتش، ماری از میان آن بیرون آمد و به‌دستش چسبید. ۴ساکنان جزیره چون دیدند که مار از دست او آویزان است، به یکدیگر گفتند: بی‌شک این مرد قاتل است که هرچند از دریا نجات یافت، عدالت نمی‌گذارد زنده بماند. ۵امّا پولُس مار را در آتش انداخت و هیچ آسیبی ندید.۶مردم انتظار داشتند بدن او وَرَم کند یا اینکه ناگهان بیفتد و بمیرد. امّا پس از انتظار بسیار، چون دیدند هیچ آسیبی به او نرسید، فکرشان عوض شد و گفتند از خدایان است. ۷در آن نزدیکی زمینهایی بود متعلّق به رئیس جزیره که پوبلیوس نام داشت. او ما را به منزل خود دعوت کرد و سه روز به‌گرمی از ما پذیرایی نمود. ۸از قضا، پدر پوبلیوس در بستر بیماری افتاده بود و تب و اسهال داشت. پولُس نزد او رفت و دعا کرده، دست بر او گذاشت و شفایش بخشید. ۹پس از این واقعه، سایر بیمارانی که در جزیره بودند، می‌آمدند و شفا می‌گرفتند.۱۰آنها ما را تکریمِ بسیار کردند، و چون آمادۀ رفتن می‌شدیم، هرآنچه نیازمان بود برایمان فراهم آوردند.
