نامۀ پولُس رسول به رومیان

۱

         از پولُس، غلام مسیحْ عیسی،که به رسالت فراخوانده شده و وقف انجیل خدا شده است؛۲همان انجیل که خدا از پیش، به‌واسطۀ پیامبران خود، وعده‌اش را در کتب‌مقدّس داده بود،۳و دربارۀ پسر اوست، که چون انسانی خاکی از صُلب داوود به دنیا آمد،۴امّا با رستاخیز از میان مردگان، به‌سبب روحِ قدّوسیت، به مقام پسر قدرتمند خدا منصوب شد، یعنی خداوند ما عیسی مسیح. ۵ما به‌واسطۀ وی و به‌خاطر نام او فیض یافتیم که رسول باشیم تا از میان همۀ غیریهودیان، مردمان را به اطاعتی که در ایمان است، فراخوانیم. ۶و این شما را نیز در‌بر می‌گیرد، که فراخوانده شده‌اید تا از آنِ عیسی مسیح باشید؛ ۷به همۀ آنان که در روم، محبوب خدایند و فراخوانده شده‌اند تا از مقدّسان باشند: فیض و آرامش از جانب خدا، پدر ما، و خداوندْ عیسی مسیح، بر شما باد.

اشتیاق پولُس به دیدار از روم 

۸نخست، خدای خود را به‌توسط عیسی مسیح، به‌خاطر همۀ شما شکر می‌گزارم زیرا آوازۀ ایمان شما در همۀ عالم پیچیده است.۹خدایی که او را با همۀ وجودم در کار انجیل پسرش خدمت می‌کنم، بر من شاهد است که چگونه پیوسته در دعاهایم شما را در همۀ اوقات یاد می‌کنم ۱۰و استدعا می‌نمایم که اگر خدا بخواهد سرانجام به دیدار شما نایل شوم. ۱۱زیرا مشتاق دیدارتان هستم تا عطایی روحانی به شما برسانم که موجب استواری‌تان گردد؛۱۲یعنی تا من و شما هر دو از ایمان یکدیگر دلگرم شویم. ۱۳ای برادران، نمی‌خواهم بی‌خبر باشید که بارها قصد آن داشته‌ام که نزدتان بیایم، امّا هر بار مانعی پیش آمده است. بر‌آنم که در میان شما نیز محصولی برداشت کنم، همانگونه که در میان دیگر غیریهودیان کرده‌ام. ۱۴من خود را چه به یونانیان و چه به بَربَرها، چه به حکیمان و چه به جاهلان مدیون می‌دانم. ۱۵از این‌رو، اشتیاق بسیار دارم که شما را نیز که در روم به‌سر می‌برید، بشارت دهم. ۱۶زیرا از انجیل سرافکنده نیستم، چرا‌که قدرت خداست برای نجات هر‌کس که ایمان آوَرَد، نخست یهود و سپس یونانی. ۱۷زیرا در انجیل، آن پارسایی که از خداست به‌ظهور می‌رسد، که از آغاز تا به انجام بر پایۀ ایمان است. چنانکه نوشته شده است: پارسا به ایمان زیست خواهد کرد.
