۱و خدا به یعقوب گفت: «برخیز و به بِیت‌ئیل بر‌آی و در آنجا ساکن شو. در آنجا برای خدایی که چون از حضور برادرت عیسو می‌گریختی، بر تو ظاهر شد، مذبحی بساز.» ۲پس یعقوب به اهل خانۀ خویش و همۀ کسانی که با او بودند، گفت: «خدایان بیگانه‌ای را که در میان شماست، از خویشتن دور کنید و خود را طاهر سازید و جامه‌هایتان را عوض کنید. ۳آنگاه برخاسته به بِیت‌ئیل برویم، تا در آنجا برای خدایی که مرا در روز تنگی‌ام اجابت می‌کند و در راهی که رفته‌ام با من بوده است، مذبحی بسازم.» ۴پس آنان همۀ خدایان بیگانه را که در دستشان بود و نیز گوشواره‌هایی را که در گوش داشتند به یعقوب دادند و یعقوب آنها را زیر درخت بلوطی که در شِکیم بود، در خاک کرد. ۵و چون کوچ کردند ترس از جانب خدا بر شهرهای اطرافشان مستولی شد، چندان که پسران یعقوب را تعقیب نکردند. ۶یعقوب به لوز که همان بِیت‌ئیل باشد و در سرزمین کنعان واقع است رسید، او و همۀ کسانی که با او بودند. ۷در آنجا، مذبحی بنا کرد و آن مکان را ایل‌بِیت‌ئیل نامید، زیرا در آنجا بود که خدا خود را بر او آشکار ساخته بود، هنگامی که از حضور برادرش می‌گریخت. ۸و دِبورَه دایۀ رِبِکا مرد و او را زیر درخت بلوطی پایین بِیت‌ئیل دفن کردند. پس آن را ’اَلون باکوت‘ نامیدند.۹هنگامی که یعقوب از فَدّان‌اَرام آمد، خدا بار دیگر بر او ظاهر شد و او را برکت داد. ۱۰و خدا به او گفت: «نام تو یعقوب است، ولی از این پس دیگر نام تو یعقوب خوانده نخواهد شد، بلکه نامت اسرائیل خواهد بود.» پس او را اسرائیل نامید. ۱۱و خدا به او گفت: «من خدای قادر مطلق هستم؛ بارور و کثیر شو. از تو قومی و جماعتی از قومها پدیدار شوند و از صُلب تو پادشاهان به وجود آیند. ۱۲سرزمینی را که به ابراهیم و اسحاق دادم، به تو و پس از تو به نسل تو می‌بخشم.» ۱۳آنگاه خدا در جایی که با یعقوب سخن گفته بود، از نزد وی صعود کرد. ۱۴و یعقوب در آنجا که خدا با او سخن گفته بود ستونی بر پا داشت، ستونی که از سنگ بود. و هدیۀ ریختنی و روغن بر آن ریخت. ۱۵پس یعقوب جایی را که خدا با او سخن گفته بود بِیت‌ئیل نامید.
مرگ راحیل و اسحاق
۱۶آنگاه از بِیت‌ئیل کوچ کردند. و هنوز اندک فاصله‌ای با اِفراتَه داشتند که درد زایمان راحیل آغاز شد و زایمان بسیار سختی داشت. ۱۷و چون سختی زایمانش به اوج خود رسید، قابله به او گفت: «مترس، زیرا این نیز برایت پسر است.» ۱۸و راحیل که در حال مرگ بود، در حین جان دادن، پسر خود را بِن‌اونی نامید. اما پدرش او را بِنیامین نام نهاد. ۱۹پس راحیل مرد و او را در راه اِفراتَه که همان بِیت‌لِحِم است، به خاک سپردند. ۲۰و یعقوب بر قبر او ستونی بر پا داشت که همان ستون قبر راحیل است که تا به امروز باقی است. ۲۱سپس اسرائیل کوچ کرد و خیمۀ خود را در آن سوی برج عیدِر بر پا داشت. ۲۲در حین سکونت اسرائیل در آن سرزمین، رِئوبین رفت و با بِلهَه، مُتَعِۀ پدرش، همبستر شد و اسرائیل از آن آگاه گشت.پسران یعقوب دوازده بودند. ۲۳پسران لیَه: رِئوبین، نخست‌زادۀ یعقوب، و شمعون و لاوی و یهودا و یِساکار و زِبولون. ۲۴پسران راحیل: یوسف و بِنیامین. ۲۵پسران بِلهَه که ندیمۀ راحیل بود: دان و نَفتالی. ۲۶پسران زِلفَه که ندیمۀ لیَه بود: جاد و اَشیر. اینانند پسران یعقوب که در فَدّان‌اَرام برای وی زاده شدند. ۲۷یعقوب نزد پدرش اسحاق در مَمری آمد، به قَریه‌اَربَع که حِبرون باشد، همان جا که ابراهیم و اسحاق غربت گزیدند. ۲۸ایام عمر اسحاق صد و هشتاد سال بود. ۲۹آنگاه نَفَس آخرین را برآورد و بمرد، و پیر و سیر به قوم خویش پیوست. و پسرانش عیسو و یعقوب او را به خاک سپردند.
